Barclays has confirmed it will support Apple Pay in the UK, despite being left off the initial list of launch partners.

Writing on Twitter, the bank said: “We are really excited about the launch of Apple Pay and will bring Barclays debit cards and Barclaycard credit cards to Apple Pay in the future.”

The news comes as Apple Pay’s rollout finally begins across the country.

HSBC customers were left disappointed after they discovered they could not use the service, despite their bank being listed as a partner for the July launch.

The bank has since said that it will be launching on Apple Pay later this month. First Direct, which had also been expected to offer Apple Pay access straight away, will also offer Apple Pay by the end of July.

Apple. Samsung and Google will both want Apple Pay to succeed.

Because once it does, their forthcoming mobile payment services, backed up by fingerprint scanners on top-end Android handsets, will also take off, finally bringing the mobile payment revolution into the mainstream.

Apple Pay is likely to remain niche and novel.

But as new pay terminals come in and more banks get on board, expect to see more than just your average tech fanatic using their iPhone to pay for everything from a new coat to a meal in a big-name chain restaurants.

It will take time, but it’s hard not to see Apple Pay being a success.

For one, most outlets with contactless machines will limit you to spending £20, treating Apple Pay on an iPhone just like a standard contactless card.

When you can use the latter without having to press down on your smartphone’s home button in order to make a purchase, Apple Pay suddenly looks less alluring.

There are changes coming. That limit is set to rise to £30 in September. And new machines which allow higher value transactions are also set to come in over the next few months.

In fact, a string of shops and services are already offering the chance to spend big. These include Apple, Boots, H&M, Pret, Transport for London and London taxis.

Still, this needs to be far more wide–ranging for Apple Pay to enjoy anything more than novelty status in its first few months. It simply adds friction to low cost transactions at this point.

Where it will really come into its own is when you’re making big-ticket purchases.

Once that becomes standard practice (and with iPhone sales booming, it surely will), the need to take your wallet out will disappear.

Apple Pay’s UK launch appears to have been warmly welcomed by iPhone owners.

Complaints to banks not on board from launch are rife on Twitter, with many saying they’d sooner change accounts than wait to use the service.

That’s understandable. The promise of being able to leave your wallet at home and just use your phone has been lingering for the best part of a decade.

And while other mobile payment solutions have been available for some time, such as EE’s Cash On Tap, none have offered the same heightened security as Apple Pay.

Touch ID’s fingerprint scanner is what makes Apple Pay so alluring. And therefore, that should mean Apple Pay gets off to a fast start.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 looks set to be unveiled in August, amid rumours that the Korean company is bringing the device's launch forward by a month.

A ‘person familiar with the matter’ has briefed the Wall Street Journal on the plans. Samsung usually reveals its Note range around the annual IFA trade show held in Berlin in early September.

However, last year it saw its Galaxy Note 4 lose the battle for headlines, with Apple’s iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus launching just six days later.

Apple went on to sell a record number of iPhones, while Samsung floundered in its wake.

The run-up to launch last time out also saw Samsung’s devices compared unfavourably with Apple’s, as last-minute rumours flew about just what Apple had planned for its new phones.

Samsung's decision to move the Note 5's due date comes just days after the phone-maker revealed surprisingly disappointing results for the April to June quarter.

Therefore, launching the Note 5 in August is essential. It can have a clear run at the tech press at a traditionally quiet time of year.

It can show off its device to punters well ahead of the iPhone 6S, which is expected in early September.

And if it can get the phone in stores within a matter of days after its launch event, it might just edge itself back to profitability.

Those, though, are some big ifs.

Hype around Apple’s new iPhones isn’t going to die quietly and rumours have suggested that Apple has already ordered as many as 90 million units, so confident is it of selling even more of its handsets than last year.

Call it dancing to Apple’s tune. Call it a calculated move to get more headlines and build more hype. But Samsung’s apparent move to bring the launch of its Galaxy Note 5 forward to August makes complete sense.

The Korean giant is not in a good way right now. Sure, it’s still making big money.

But with its profits set to slip again according to its own initial forecasts, something needs to be done in order to wrest back the initiative and show itself to be on a par with its arch rival and fiercest competitor.

The Note series of devices usually launches at or around IFA in Berlin in early September, a move designed to draw the hordes towards Samsung at a public event, while showing its fellow Android mobile-makers who’s boss.

Last year, that backfired in a major way, with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, replete with larger displays, arriving six days later and stealing headlines and sales galore. It’s something Samsung hasn’t got over.

Its S6 and S6 Edge were supposed to usher in a return to commercial superiority.

But a miscalculation regarding demand for the latter device meant its profits have hit the skids for the seventh quarter running.

HTC revealed its latest flagship phone, the HTC One M9, at Mobile World Congress on Sunday. And to the delight of fully paid-up fans, the handset addressed many of the minor criticisms of the much-lauded, last-gen One M8.

But while the camera has been improved to 20 megapixels and the Sense user interface has acquired a handy Google Now-style digital assistant dimension, the screen hasn't had the sort of upgrade you might expect.

Not least because HTC opted to shun QuadHD/2K display tech in favour of the Super LCD 3 technology that featured in the One M8..

Naa anubhavam (Telugu Gula Kathalu)

Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box, so it comes down to their skins.

Samsung’s TouchWiz is a lot less intrusive than previous incarnations, and for the first time you can delete some of the pre-loaded apps.

Not going to use Microsoft OneDrive? Uninstall it and free up some space.

It still looks a bit cheap and inconsistent though. It’s badly in need of a refresh.

HTC’s Sense 7 UI looks a lot slicker and has a neat way of serving up apps relevant to where you are and what you’re doing.

You can also customise the look of the phone right down to the navigation bar. Which is something we haven’t seen before.

Rent House lo Aunty Ni Denganu

The HTC One M9 boasts a much better camera than its predecessor.

Its 20-megapixel sensor captures bags more detail than the 4-megapixel ‘UltraPixel’ shooter on the One (M8).

HTC hasn’t shunned the UltraPixel tech completely though.

Rather, it has incorporated it in the front-facer, which makes much more sense, as it’s better suited to dimly-lit conditions, such as bars, where you’re more likely to take selfies.

Okkasaari (Telugu Kamapisachi Boothu Kathalu)

There’s plenty to enjoy with the S6 Edge.

It has the best camera Samsung has ever put into a phone, it doubles as a universal remote control and there are plenty of software add-ons, as we’ll see in the next section.

But the screen is the real standout feature.

Its 2,560x1,440-pixel resolution is the joint sharpest around, and looks amazing with its wraparound design.

The edges also open up a whole host of new features.

You can set tiles on them to light up different colours for your closest contacts.

When one calls, it will flash that colour, so if the phone is face down on the desk you know who’s calling without picking it up.

They can also show other information such as notifications and a trending news story.

bawa maradallu (Telugu Family Boothu Kadhalu)

At first glance, the One M9 might look just like the One (M8), but there are some subtle differences.

A ridge connects the front and back of the phone, making it look as if the back is a tray that the handset sits in.

It also has a new dual-tone finish, is easier to grip, and the power button is now on the side instead of the top, making it easier to reach.

The power button is also ridged, so you can discern it from the volume buttons by touch alone.

It’s a close one, but for the leaps and bounds it’s come since its predecessor, we have to give it to the Galaxy S6 Edge.

Attaa MaradaLLatoa Majaa

In the face of the iPhone and improved build quality from HTC, Samsung couldn’t justify sticking with plastic.

It’s used metal for a number of handsets recently, including the Galaxy A7 and Galaxy Alpha. And it makes perfect sense on the S6 Edge.

The back is coated with glass, which, like the Xperia Z3, will soon be covered in fingerprints.

The back edges are a bit sharp too, but that’s not a deal-breaker.

Overall, it’s a huge improvement on the previous Galaxy S iterations.

Purists might decry the lack of a removable back and swappable battery, but we’ll happily sacrifice that for better build quality.

he HTC One M9 builds on the excellent design of its predecessor, but doesn’t do anything drastically different.

Not that that’s a bad thing – the One (M8) was one of the most dapper devices of last year.

It feels tall and narrow in the hand, and reassuringly weighty. Which makes sense – it is 25g heavier than the S6 Edge.

For the dazzling display, though, this round goes to the S6 Edge.

At the end of March, the HTC One M9 went on sale, boasting upgraded specs and a similar natty design as its predecessor.

Just a week or so later, Samsung launched not one, but two new flagships: the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge.

Here we’re pitting the S6 Edge – with its fancy curved screen – against the One M9 to see which should be crowned smartphone king.

Are you sitting comfortably? Then we’ll begin.

The Galaxy S6 Edge is made of metal, which is a departure from the usual plastic build of the Galaxy S range.

The back also doesn’t come off, which means you can’t replace the battery.

We applaud the move to metal. It feels a lot more premium than its predecessors, which felt cheap and plasticky.

When you’re spending north of £500 on a smartphone, you want it to feel like an expensive piece of kit.

The other thing you’ll notice is the screen, which curves on each side to wrap around the device.

It might not sound like a big change, but it looks really futuristic, like it goes on forever. Two thumbs-up from us.

the iPhone 6S as more of the same a full three months before it lands, it’s worth remembering that significant changes are expected under the bonnet.

The handset is thought to be the first to feature Force Touch pressure-sensitive screen technology, which enables users to interact with a wholly new set of gestures.

It’s also due to feature a beefier A9 dual-core processor to keep things zippy and improve the iPhone’s capacity to handle 3D games.

Atadi katha 02 (Telugu Buthu Kathalu)

This is born out by the fact that the apertures around the lens – for camera, mic and LED flash - are exactly the same as the current edition.

The lack of surprises doesn’t stop there. The Lightning Connector port, speakers and headphone holes appear to be located in the same places too.

And you’ll have noticed too that the silver shade of the phone in the photos is indistinguishable from the iPhone 6.

Of course it’s not conclusive, but that does cast a soupcon of doubt on claims that Apple will offer different colour options according to the territory they’re being sold in. A rose gold edition had even been mooted for the Chinese market.

Atadi katha 01 (Telugu Dengudu Kathalu)

Apple apostles finally got their first bona-fide look at what’s in store for them with the iPhone 6S, after images purporting to show the handset’s shell leaked online.

Obtained by 9to5 Mac, the snaps suggest that the dimensions, design and buttons of the phone will be unchanged from the iPhone 6. That’s utterly in keeping with Apple’s habit of following a radical update to the iPhone with a much less dramatic, iterative model.

The photos also all-but confirm that the iPhone 6S will retain the same camera flash and won’t be home to a dual-lens camera or the multiple megapixel upgrade that some tech sites predicted.

The iPhone 5C comes in a choice of blue, pink, green and white. That we’ll be seeing some of these again this year appears to have been confirmed by leaked parts.

That said, it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that for the 6C Apple will drop in a new primary colour option to freshen things up.

But we’re more certain that there won’t be gold and black versions, given that these seem to be crucial means by which Apple distinguishes its cheaper phones from its premium models.

Using the same rationale, we’re even more sure that the rose gold colourway Apple debuted on the eye-wateringly expensive Edition version of the Apple Watch won’t be one of the 6C’s colour option.

Some claim Apple will throw the formbook out of the window this year and hold its iPhone launch event in August instead of the firmly established September window. If that’s so, it’s not an unreasonable assumption that any August will be marked by the arrival of the iPhone 6C alongside its more lushly specc’d stablemates.

That the iPhone 6C will be smaller than the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus, is a given. But how much smaller?

Will Apple once again stick with the plastic build that polarised fans? And will we an iPhone 5C-style array of colours?

Here’s what we think we know. And a soupcon of what uSwitch Tech thinks could happen.

Well placed sources claim that the iPhone 6C is part of a triple-whammy of new iPhones dropping at the same press event during the second week of September.

That figures in many respects. In fact, the only reason we’d question a triumvirate of launches is that it’s likely to put back-breaking pressure on Apple’s supply chain.

The four-inch screen-toting, plastic iPhone 5C was what people in the film industry used to call a ‘sleeper hit’.

Derided on its release it sold slowly. But eventually found favour with millions of punters who don’t care for the new generation of smartphones with monster proportions.

The handset also played well with old-school Apple apostles who preferred the iPhone 5C’s Pop! colour options to the blingy gold

With that in mind, it’s perhaps not too surprising that rumours of a sequel are looming.

So what’s the dealio this time around? What’s new? What’s not so new? Here’s what the tech rumour mill thinks…

A Freshly uncovered patent has shed light on Apple's futuristic plans for its smartwatch, which will allow users to exchange information between devices via simple gestures.

The patent shows how two Apple Watch owners could shake hands, bump fists or even bow to swap files, exchange contact details or forward images without having to break out their iPhones.

Motion sensors would be able to detect the swiftness of the movements users make, so the watch would know when you were greeting someone.

What’s more, the filing claims you could share different data depending on the gesture you perform.

It even goes so far as to claim that any future Apple Watch could recognise the identity of other users and share data accordingly.

At a work event? Shake to share a business card with someone you’re meeting for the first time. Out with friends? Bump or wave to send pictures from one wearable to another.

Being a patent, the technology that underpins it is a likely to be a long way from coming to market. However, it clearly shows how keen Apple is to take its smartwatch to the next level.

Sky is working with Monument Valley developer usTwo on a new Kids TV app, designed to take on the likes of Netflix and Google.

The app is still a work in progress, but Sky has already signed up major children’s TV players such as Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network and Disney.

While Sky is keen to talk up the ‘intuitive and playful experience’ it offers little 'uns, parents will probably be more pleased to know that their kids will be protected by a number of controls over what they can watch on an iPhone or iPad.

As well as a filter for controlling what can be watched and the ability to scroll back through programmes viewed, a bedtime mode will turn the app off when it comes to lights out.

The application is likely to work across Android as well as iOS and is set to launch early in 2016. However, it’s thought that users will require a subscription to its wonder pay TV package to get involved.

While it’s a solid feature that’s already in use in other products, the MacBook and Apple Watch don’t have the same recognition or penetration as the iPhone.

Some will say adding Force Touch and potentially haptic feedback with the Taptic Engine is a backward step, a case of Apple taking old touchscreen tech and rebranding it as new.

However, its haptic tech is way beyond what was used in smartphones a few years ago and will make the iPhone better.

Tell the world how it works, and it could be a winner. But fail to offer up a decent explainer and there’ll be moans and groans from more than a few disgruntled punters

Okariki iddaru (Telugu Family Boothu Kathalu)

There’s nowhere on the Apple Watch, however, that explains how Force Touch works. And while its learning curve isn’t crazily steep, Force Touch takes some getting used to.

Try it on Apple's wearable and you’ll find you’ll misjudge pressure every now and again. The upshot is that it has the potential to be annoying and could easily cause a fuss if everyday users don’t get to grips with it quickly.

That means that Apple will either need to add an explainer app to the iPhone, which is highly unlikely, or have much better details on the web as to how it works and why it’s worth using.

muduru dimma Telugu BoothuKathalu

Apple faced issues with the Apple Watch’s Taptic Engine, the haptic feedback tech used alongside Force Touch, which apparently led it to having to scrap a number of units from one supplier.

It cannot afford those kind of problems with its flagship product.

But more than that, Apple will need to do a better job of explaining how Force Touch works and what it can do.

On the face of it, it’s an excellent addition to an already stellar product. The ability to register presses as well as swipes means you can get rid of notifications quicker, use apps in unique ways and search for mapping directions faster.

It sets the Apple Watch apart and will give Apple a strong sell if it’s not planning on changing the design of the iPhone this year.

It wouldn’t be high summer without a seemingly endless stream of iPhone speculation to keep the tech news world whirring.

And it seems that the biggest rumour of all, the one about Apple’s plans to bring Force Touch to the forthcoming iPhone 6S, is definitely happening.

Sources have told Bloomberg that Cupertino is in the early stages of production of the device and is testing units and getting ready to ramp up in the next month or so.

The reason for starting so early is thought to be related to yield rates, with Apple keen to ensure that units work properly. 'Yield rate' is defined as the number of units of a component that reach market-readiness compared with the number that entered production in the first place.

From April, data will be capped at five euro cents (4p) per megabyte, with calls pegged at a maximum rate of five cents per minute. Texts will fall to two cent per message.

The mooted prices are about a quarter of their current levels.

But before you start to look forward to a time when roaming charges are as dead as disco and you can roam freer than The Wombles, it’s worth remembering just how quick the EU was to perform a volte face on its long-stated aim to be rid of roaming charges this year.

With good reason, uSwitch mobiles don Ernest Doku gave the announcement a cautious welcome.

He said: “We’ve heard this before. Data roaming charges were due to be abolished in the EU at the end of 2015 and the U-turn confused and frustrated people.

“Mid 2017 is a long way off, particularly when a fifth of UK holidaymakers have returned home from an EU trip in the past year to find their bill was, on average, £61 higher than usual - amounting to £573 million collectively.

“Of these, around one in six had to pay upwards of £100 on top of their normal bill.”

Doku added: “Let’s hope there’ll be no more backtracking after Europe’s mobile networks have had their say.

“The ‘safeguards’ to address the recovery of costs by operators will have to be suitably robust to financially protect mobile customers and make sure bills don’t rise.”
